Arnica helped reduce swelling and bruising after my knee surgery. This is day 10 after surgery - no crutches!
As you know, my knee surgery healing process is going incredibly well! I did a pre-hab which helped speed up my recovery process. Part of my pre-hab was taking homeopathic Arnica Montana. It speeds up the recovery period and minimizes swelling after surgery.
I always have a supply of Arnica on hand as it comes in handy after mountain bike crashes (I tend to have a few of these during the year!), dirt biking ‘dings’, or last year, a kite surfing crash on the beach (ouch!). The rule of thumb is to take Arnica as soon as possible. So I carry it in my sports equipment and take immediately after the crash.
Arnica Montana is a plant in the daisy family. It grows in high mountain meadows where it takes in huge amounts of sunlight. It is prepared from the whole fresh plant when it is in bloom.
I carry arnica with me during sporting adventures. It comes in VERY handy!
In Homeopathic Medicine, Arnica is prescribed in any case where the individual has suffered a trauma, such as a fall off a bike where bruising occurs. The remedy works most effective when ingested orally, but you can also apply directly to the bruising using an ointment. Your local health food store can help you in deciding your personal dosage or you can consult a homeopathic professional.
Disorders which Arnica is a remedy for: (taken from “Prescription for Natural Cures’ by James F. Balch, MD and Mark Stengler, N.D)
- After stroke or heart attack
- Arthritis
- Backache
- Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
- Eczema
- Fibromyalgia
- Flu
- Gastritis
- Headaches
- Hemorrhoids
- Injuries (bruises, burns, stings, and sprains)
- Migraines
- Pneumonia
You can buy Arnica at a health food store or you can buy Arnica online here.
Remember, it is a good idea to consult a homeopathic professional to seek treatment of long-term and chronic health issues.

Hi, good post. I have been wondering about this issue,so thanks for posting.
The best information i have found exactly here. Keep going Thank you
Hi there. Well, I don’t go w/out this stuff. It’s amazing, my son is a true
testimony for that. I’m proud to say that we don’t use drugs or mainstream
medicines. Our bodies were made to heal themselves w/proper nutrition
and a little help. That is what homeopathy is. Everything I’ve tried, works.
My son had a great fall of a bike….our first ER experience. If would’ve been watching him more closely it may have been prevented. Kids don’t always make
the wisest decisions. He fell and landed on a huge potted plant. His right eyebrow area landed on the edge of it. Ugh, just thinking about it, makes my heart ache.
I knew 911 was the first and foremost need that was there, after getting him out of the situation, where he fell. I then called my neighbor to get us the arnica from our place and bring it to the ER. I gave it to him right away. He got stitches, 7 inside and 12 outside. The night was rough and the next day his eye was almost bruised and swollen shut. I kid you not, on the 2nd day, his eye was already starting to turn yellow, healing!! Awesome. W/out that for sure would’ve been a week or more for the bruising to heal. If I could show you pics I would. Hypericum is another good one…that’s for nerve pain. He took that also. I would recommend Lavender essential oil in any first aid kit. It’s great for scrapes, burns, cuts and evern bruising. Tea tree oil is another anti-infectious oil. Arnica is the best first aid treatment out there. You will have a testimony when you use it too!
Thanks so much for this, Joie! I’m glad your son is OK and healed up fast. Arnica is amazing! And thank you for posting tips on Lavender and Tea Tree oil. Take care, Kim
